The iPhone 7 “The best smartphone camera ever.”? – I have to agree.
As a keen amateur photographer and a loyal advocate of the iPhone, I received my new iPhone 7 Plus with great excitement. I was especially keen to put to the test Apple’s claim that this is the “best smartphone camera ever.”
As a time-pushed businessman I regularly find myself walking our dog at sunrise or as the sun goes down in the winter months and love to photograph the amazing natural world at that time of day. Photography at low light levels is the trickiest of all and I have been astounded by this cameras performance. The iPhone camera allows you to capture sharp, crisp images with great colours and tones in low light. The camera has optical image stabilisation and wide-open f/1.8 apertures, both of which help in low light.
What has struck me most is the extraordinary clarity of the lens. Whilst this is a simple point and shoot camera it intelligently uses more advanced settings automatically to manipulate the camera to take the best photo. Of course, you can manually adjust the different settings if you should so wish. The iPhone 7 Plus operates a dual lens system using a wide angle and telephoto lens that it seamlessly and intelligently chooses between. The way the lenses work result in less pixilation and distortion.
The camera has impressed me not only in panoramic nature shots but the depth of field it has makes for superb portrait photographs of a professional quality. Applying the depth of field effect to images blurs the background to make the subject of the photograph sharper.
And of course, as with all things Apple, you also get to enjoy the benefits that have become synonymous with the Apples iPhone technology such as automatic back up to your cloud storage of choice and its compatibility with social media.
So, to answer the question in the title – yes, without doubt, the iPhone 7 Plus is the best smartphone camera ever……so far…!
